i got so busy!

And it's not getting less busy! But luckily, I got a new full time job that doesn't make me want to throw rocks at co-workers -- it's enjoyable, but adds to my busy-ness.

I like to go for a tumble in the woods every so often, but not hardcore like that. In fact, the last time I went hiking, I'm pretty sure I fell out of a tree. It hurt.

i love weddings!

Weddings are beautiful. Just think -- this is the moment that a couple chooses to share with their friends and family, to share their love and hopes for their new future together.

Oh, sigh. So lovely.

My dear friends have finally decided to get married! They are going to fly to Vegas and get hitched -- which suits them perfectly. He will wear jeans and she will wear flip flops.

Actually, she's wearing this dress. And flip flops.

They are having a gathering to celebrate when they get back from the Little Chapel.



I imagine them looking like this, standing in front of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. Oh, and Bonny really is quite tall with the legs of a gazelle.

i smell spring

I have been feeling down with the flu and/or bronchitis for a week and am finally feeling springy enough to enjoy the warmer weather.



I needed to make an event poster for class and was lacking inspiration. Luckily, at work, a few co-workers and I have been day dreaming about running away to Chicago opening up shop and all the lovely things you could do if you hit the lottery. A sweet shop was one of the businesses imagined, so I made a hypothetical logo and event poster for the grand opening of this hypothetical store.



C, the owner of this hypothetical business, wanted her store and it's brand to be girly and sweet and as pink as possible. To prepare for this hypothetical shop, she's been bringing in low fat/low calorie desserts and using us as guinea pigs.

I do not mind. I am always hungry.

estoy cansado

I feel so drained. I just got back home from New York the other day. It was my first real visit in 13 months -- going back for funerals doesn't count. Before leaving, I got into a car wreck. Always an experience. Now I am back in Kansas City, driving a rental car, and still trying to readjust to Real Life.

School has been fun -- I've been to half of my classes due to the snow days that seemed to just show up on days class was scheduled. This week's assignment is to design a Web site for the company logo we did for the previous assignment.

I picked Heartland Book Bank, a local non-profit organization that collects donated books in a sort of library that is used by the public.



I have been doodling/"outlining" this assignment when random breaks were available during my trip home.



Doodling stacks of books didn't really help in my "outlining," but my heart got warm and fuzzy thinking about what the organization did, which made me feel even more giddy and my pen just followed the giddiness.



I am enjoying class a lot. I have to try very hard to contain my excitement over the assignments we have.

But, oh, how I yearn for a solid night's sleep!


*Also: I brought back my Bird from New York. Birdwick Jesus Jorge Connors the XL Papillon, to be exact. I am jealous that he doesn't seem to be having as hard of a time getting used to Kansas City as I am, but I keep forgetting that his day includes sleeping, being pet and scratched, eating and pooping. What a life.

how chapped your lips are

A co-worker requested I make a giant tube of Chapstick so he could whip it out of his drawer whenever anyone was kissing too much ass.

more birthdays

I love making fliers. There's just something about them, they are so casual, so fun.

Knowing that these were going to be printed in black and white was different -- I'm used to COLOR. MASSIVE. AMOUNTS. OF COLOR.

Oh, I love colors.

So, apparently, as people age, they don't lose their love for beer. Steve and Phil both love beer, and beer was going to be at their parties, so beer had to be in their fliers/invites.





For some reason, I really wanted to stick a cigar in baby Philbert's mouth instead of a noisemaker. And I love how he kind of looks like he is about to cry. Poor baby Phil!

All in all, these were really fun to make, especially because these are two really cool old geezers, and I think they are awesome.

birthday cards

Today is one of my favorite attorney's birthday. She is fabulous and sweet, so I made her a birthday card.



But it opens!



And the inside.. that's a melted candle, by the way.



Not bad, considering all I had at my disposal were office supplies.

And speaking of birthdays, this was for my friend Alex's birthday, who loves Marcel the Shell with Shoes On.

fsq xmas

It started with a doodle while I was making a presentation for the FSQ promo cards.



Then, I thought, "Hmm, this looks like it would be a fun project!"



And here is what I'm going to print out and pass to everyone in the firm.



Oh, I love the satisfaction of seeing something go from in your head to actual finished product.


EDIT: I emailed the drawing to the firm and the partners asked if I could use that to make a Christmas card to go out to our clients. I am so surprised. And happy!

filling up time

It's 2010 and I am still running the same version of Photoshop (7.0) since it came out. Is that bad? (Probably.) Considering how my day job isn't anything at all directed towards what I want to do in the future career-wise, I am trying to fill up the rest of my time with doing the things that I love.

Hence, the firm Christmas card. Not the one they will be sending out, no, but the one I will be giving everyone at the firm.

I keep forgetting how much I like making things. I found an old flier I made for the female a Capella group in my school, Serendipity, for one of their shows.



I have to get on my shit, get a degree, find a new job, etc., etc. Onward!
